Law Enforcement Overview
Penn State has a proud history of service to the law enforcement community. Since the Institute was founded in 1971, Penn State has served thousands of Federal, state, and local law enforcement professionals from all regions of the United States. Participants have included police from large metropolitan areas and small rural towns, correction officers, probation and parole officers, and court personnel. Institute programs can be customized to the needs of the law enforcement personnel in attendance.
While our original focus was providing training to law enforcement supervisors and executives, the Institute has responded to the need for training in specialty topics by offering contemporary programs, such as major incident command and accident investigation.
The Justice and Safety Institute enjoys a cooperative agreement with the Northeast Counterdrug Training Center to provide programs that are available free of charge. Read more on these programs.
Penn State has a growing list of clients, including large and small premier law enforcement agencies. The Institute's programs have been offered at dozens of sites in the continental United States, as well as in Trinidad-Tobago.
